It has been reported that some victims of rape, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not wake up. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world just like their normal one, except they weren't being raped. The only way they realized they needed to wake up was a note they found in their fantasy world. It would tell them about their condition, and tell them to wake up. Even then, it would often take months until they were ready to discard their fantasy world and please wake up.

ReplyDeleteThis is a cute idea (a 'please wake up' note that makes the reader wonder if they're living in a fantasy), but it doesn't work as a single-paragraph one-shot. If this were part of a longer story, I'd like it more.

ReplyDeleteIt was intended as a mindfuck, and really does not deal with being raped(besides it being in the story to help the point). Don't go beyond what it's about, nor take offense to it. If you do not like it whatsoever, then express it with putting thought into it.

It's not a joke. Read it again, but replace "rape" with a different bad experience (like a serious car crash) and the main point doesn't change. Rape, being a very traumatic experience that most people would love to forget ever happened, just works best.
